DJ Ayres sent us this little interview with Dave Nada explaining the TOTALLY amazing origins of “Moombahton,” which is essentially Dutch house screwed down to sound like reggaeton’s weird little cousin.

Ayres: How did you come up with Moombahton? It’s such a weird idea, usually dance producers take slower songs and speed them up, not the other way around. I’m imagining you playing an Afrojack 12″ on 33 rpm instead of 45, by accident.

Merengue Bomba as enjoyed in Puerto Rico, has a slower tempo than merengue mambo or merengue tipico. The Merengue bomba has a slower tempo so the boom is a lil more booming and the dancing can be more sensual since there is more time in which to perform each step. Not that weird a concept- the whole slowing down of the tempo.

The tracks are here. I’m listening to the Riverside one now and just played the Moombahton one. I dont have enough bass on my monitor speakers to appreciate it, but I can imagine getting rather crunk to this in a club if I’ve already had enough other music to get me excited. It starts to grab me at about 3:45 , tra tra tra.
No, its not tra tra tra, its “brinquen bailen brinquen bailen brinquen bailen”.
Franco? Perreo Puro? Trebol Clan? I know this….(flipping thru Media Monkey real quicklike)

Duh, its Franco el Gorila AND Trebol Clan- Ronquen- Discotequeo Mix. Not sayin it IS that song, just that thats what I hear.

And a lil Skrippa Dance in there, is that Fix Up, Look Out by Dizzee Rascal, merely the Funky Drummer? Just me hearing the FD in EVERYTHANG?

In other news, speaking of David’s and Europe, I still think David Guetta’s Sexy Chick actually says “sexy chula”, and that works for me. “Damn youse a sexy chula.”

2 to “Moombahton”

  1. w&w says:

the beat underpinning the dizzee jam is billy squier’s “big beat” (quite literally named!)

  2. N says:

Thanks Wayne! Roxanne Roxanne. Now that you’ve told me I can hear the difference.
